Thalisathi Vadagam is an ideal combination of herbs that can be given in diseases due to vitiated Vatha, Pitha, and Kapha. It helps to treat indigestion, flatulence, cough with expectoration, bronchial asthma, fever, and emaciating ;
Thalisathi Vadagam is effective in both types of cough – Productive and Non-productive cough. Due to the high content of Misri (crystallized sugar lumps), it becomes more useful in Non-productive cough. However, the other ingredients in Thalisathi Vadagam have antitussive, mucolytic and expectorant action, which make it effective in productive cough as well.
Role of Ingredients;
Taxus baccata - used by the native populations for treating common cold, cough, fever, and pain.
Pipper nigrum - Piperine''exhibits diverse pharmacological activities like antihypertensive, antiplatelet, antioxidant, antitumor, anti-asthmatics, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-diarrheal, antispasmodic, antidepressants, immunomodulatory, anticonvulsant, anti-thyroids, antibacterial
Zingiber officinalis -medicinal properties, such as antiarthritis, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, etc.
Piper longum -is most commonly used to treat chronic bronchitis, asthma, constipation, gonorrhea, paralysis of the tongue, diarrhea, cholera, chronic malaria, viral hepatitis, respiratory infections, stomachache, bronchitis, diseases of the spleen, cough, and tumors.
Maranata arundinaceae -as a nutritional food for infants and for people recovering from illness. It is also used for stomach and intestinal disorders, including diarrhea.
Elettaria cardamomum -is used to cure indigestion, nausea, vomiting and used to expel out phlegm out of the body. It is very beneficial in congestion of lungs and other pulmonary diseases. It is also used as a laxative and used to prevent stomach pain, flatulence, and gripping.
Cinnamomum zeylanicum - used for gastrointestinal (GI) upset, diarrhea, and gas. It is also used for stimulating appetite; for infections caused by bacteria and parasitic worms; and for menstrual cramps, the common cold, and the flu (influenza).
Saccharum officinarum -used to treat jaundice, hemorrhage, dysuria, anuria, and other urinary diseases.
Glycyrrhiza glabra - a small perennial herb that has been traditionally used to treat many diseases, such as respiratory disorders, hyperdipsia, epilepsy, fever, sexual debility, paralysis, stomach ulcers, rheumatism, skin diseases, hemorrhagic diseases, and jaundice.
Ferula asafoetida -used in modern herbalism in the treatment of hysteria, some nervous conditions, bronchitis, asthma, and whooping cough. It was at one time employed in the treatment of infantile pneumonia and flatulent colic. The gum resin is antispasmodic, carminative, expectorant, laxative, and sedative.
Sassura lappa -used in various traditional systems of medicine for its anti-ulcer, anti-convulsant, anti-cancer, hepatoprotective, anti-arthritic, anti-viral activities.
