KUTAJARISHTA;
Kutajarishta is a polyherbal formulation used in the Ayurvedic system of medicine. It is well known for its use in the treatment of conditions like diarrhea, dysentery, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)[1]. It reduces intestinal motility (the movement of food in the body) which is helpful in treating intestinal disorders, especially different types of diarrhea. According to Ayurveda, Kutajarishta is known to have Deepan (appetizer) and Pachan (digestive) properties which help in controlling diarrhea. It also helps control water loss due to its Grahi (absorbent) and Kashaya (astringent) properties. The Kashaya (astringent) property of Kutajarishta also helps in dysentery by reducing the inflammation of the intestine. This property is also helpful to control bleeding caused by dysentery and IBS.
ROLE OF INGREDIENTS;
Kutaj (Holarrhena antidysenterica) - is widely used in traditional medical system for treatment of constipation, colic, and diarrhea.
Draksha (Vitis vinifera) - used for treating sore throats, and raisins were given as treatments for consumption (tuberculosis), constipation and thirst. Ripe grapes were used for the treatment of cancer, cholera, smallpox, nausea, skin and eye infections as well as kidney and liver diseases.
Gambhari (Gmelina arborea) - use as anthelmintic, antimicrobial, anti-diabetic, anti-aging, analgesic, diuretic, hepato-protective and antiepileptic ;
