DOORVADI THAILAM;

Doorvadi Thailam is a herbal Ayurvedic medicated oil prepared from Durva and base oil. Base oil can be sesame or coconut oil. When this oil is prepared in coconut oil or Kera thailam, it is known Durvadi kerathailam.

It is mentioned in Chakradatta and Bhaishajya Ratnavali in Vrana shotha Roga Adhikara for the treatment of Vrana. Wound is known as Vrana in ayurveda. It includes abrasion (wearing away of the upper layer of the skin as a result of applied friction force), haematoma (localized swelling filled with blood caused by a break in the wall of a blood vessel, blood clots and remains inside muscle/organ), bruise injury (discoloration and tenderness of the skin due to the leakage of blood from an injured blood vessel), contusion, fissure in ano, stab wounds, incised wounds, laceration (torn wound), abscess, cyst, etc.

Doorva or doob grass is the main ingredient of this oil. Doorvadi taila has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties due to which effectively helps in wound healing.

ROLE OF INGREDIENTS;

Cocus nucifera - are considered antipyretic and diuretic. Milk of young coconut is diuretic, laxative, antidiarrhoeic and counteracts the effects of poison. The oil is used to treat diseased skin and teeth and mixed with other medicines to make embrocations.

Azadirachta indica - is used for leprosy, eye disorders, bloody nose, intestinal worms, stomach upset, loss of appetite, skin ulcers, diseases of the heart and blood vessels (cardiovascular disease), fever, diabetes, gum disease (gingivitis), and liver problems. The leaf is also used for birth control and to cause abortions.

Glycyrrhiza glabra - is a small perennial herb that has been traditionally used to treat many diseases, such as respiratory disorders, hyperdipsia, epilepsy, fever, sexual debility, paralysis, stomach ulcers, rheumatism, skin diseases, hemorrhagic diseases, and jaundice.

Sesamum indicum - is a good source of energy and act as an antiaging agent. Its seeds are used as Anti-helmintic, antihypertensive, antimicrobial, cytotoxic and Hepatoprotective 

BENEFITS;

It helps to bring about quick wound healing.

Also used to apply over scalp to relieve itching and dandruff, and scabies on head.

It is only used for external application only It is not used for internal administration.

It is applied to scalp and done gentle massage. It is applied at night and next day morning, head bath is taken.

It can also be applied just half an hour before head bath.

For skin and wounds, it is applied, left for half an hour to an hour and washed off.

DIRECTIONS FOR USAGE;

Doorvadi taila is for external use only. It can be applied on scalp for treating scalp infections and on wounds. 5-10 ml of oil should be applied and massaged on scalp. For good results, it should be applied at night and washed off next morning. In the case of cuts, wounds and similar condition, Doorvadi oil should be applied on the affected body part and kept at least for one hour.
